Community Education Counsellor – Charmaine Kucks
At Bellbird Park State Secondary College, our Community Education Counsellor (CEC) plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families to engage fully in school life. The CEC provides culturally responsive support, helping students navigate their educational journey while strengthening connections between families, the school, and the wider community.
How the CEC Supports Students and Families:
- Educational Guidance & Wellbeing Support – Helping students succeed academically and personally.
- Cultural Connection – Ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are valued and included within the school.
- Family Engagement – Encouraging and supporting families to be actively involved in their child's education.
- Pathway Planning – Providing advice on school-based traineeships, apprenticeships, university pathways, and career options.
- Access to Services – Connecting students and families with external support networks and Indigenous services.
- Cultural Awareness – Supporting the school community with Cross-Cultural awareness training.
- Community Partnerships – Strengthening relationships between the school, families, and local organisations.
The CEC also assists with state and federal programs that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, ensuring they have access to the resources and opportunities needed to succeed.
Students are welcome to visit the Culture Hub, located in M Block for assistance. Support is available before and after school, as well as during lunch breaks.
